Great Decisions Discussion Series

Great Decisions Discussion Series

It's that time again! Eight provocative topics will provide the basis for this always interesting and stimulating global issues discussion series. The more diverse the opinions (and they usually are) the more thought-provoking and rousing the conversations.
Great Decisions, sponsored by the League of Women Voters Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth and the Library, will take place for eight consecutive weeks. Attend one session or all.
Foreign Policy Association briefing booklets containing an informative article on each topic are available for purchase for $20. The library has several copies available for checkout.   For more information or to purchase a booklet, contact Joan Fragen, (847) 446-0184 or

Each session begins with a short DVD introduction to the subject, providing a segue to the group's discussion. Please join us, and bring your friends!

China and America: the new geopolitical equation

By David M. Lampton

In the last 15 years, China has implemented a wide-ranging strategy of economic, military and diplomatic outreach and expansion. While the United States has stepped back from multilateral trade agreements and discarded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), China has made inroads through efforts like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). What are Beijing’s geopolitical objectives? What leadership and political conditions in each society underlie growing Sino-American tensions?  What policies might Washington adopt to address this?
